The bar graph above shows the number of whales killed drastically dropped right after the International Whaling Commission Moratorium in 1986, and has been gradually increasing for both scientific and objection (commercial) purposes.

The bar graph above shows that the number of whales taken dropped from 1986 to 1987 when moratorium was established on commercial whaling. However, the number has been fluctuating yet gradually increasing from 1988, peaking in 2005 until 2010 when Australia sued Japan at the International Court of Justice.
